1942 · No. 880 Squadron, Seafire IIc
Photograph wanted. The current site has none for this ship.

In September 1942 Bill was appointed Commanding Officer of No. 880 Squadron, the first Canadian-born Royal Navy pilot to command a fleet single-seat fighter squadron. After Seafire familiarisation the squadron embarked in Argus, the last carrier commissioned in the First World War.

In the first two weeks of November 1942 twelve Seafire IIcs from Argus flew cover for the American landings in North Africa. The squadron then went ashore at Hatston for Christmas.
