Calgarian Commands Planes on New Carrier

LONDON, April 28.—It was announced today that Lieut. William Martyn, of Calgary, is in command of the Seafire force of the new British aircraft carrier Indomitable.

The Seafire is one of the latest models of fighter planes of the Royal Navy's fleet air arm.

Martyn described it as “the sweetest flying machine ever made.”

He joined the R.A.F. in 1938, later transferring to the fleet air arm. He won the D.F.C. in the battle of Norway in 1940, had a hand in the North African landings and helped shepherd several Malta convoys.

So far he has destroyed seven enemy planes.
