LIEUT. W. A. "BILL" MARTYN (above), D.S.C., 26, of the Royal Navy (Fleet Arm), has been awarded mention in dispatches for the third time
LIEUT. W. A. "BILL" MARTYN (above), D.S.C., 26, of the Royal Navy (Fleet Arm), has been awarded mention in dispatches for the third time according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Martyn of 1608 13th Ave. W.
The mention was made for the part he played in a recent convoy trip to Malta, it was stated.
Lieut. Martyn, who enlisted in the R.A.F. in 1936 and was transferred to the Royal Navy two years later, won the Distinguished Service Cross "for continued good service against the enemy over Norway" in 1940. He has served in many parts of the world since the beginning of the war.
This cutting is a photograph (head and shoulders in uniform) with a caption only; there is no separate headline. The caption's first words are used as the head (a shortened form of the caption). Date 7 Dec 1942 from the cutting label. "Fleet Arm" (without "Air") is as printed. Hard to read in the print: Paragraph 3: the year "1936" is degraded in print and the last digit looks like 5/S; read as 1936 (consistent with the other cuttings).
