BRAVERY RECOGNIZED
BRAVERY RECOGNIZED—Lieut. William A. Martyn of the Royal Navy (Fleet Arm), 24-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Martyn, 1608 Thirteenth avenue west, has been awarded the Distinguished Service Cross "for continued good service against the enemy over Norway," according to information received by his parents during the weekend.
Lieut. Martyn was mentioned in dispatches last August for "bravery and continued devotion to duty in combatting enemy air craft". He has been in the thick of fighting since the commencement of the war, serving at Narvik, Dunkirk, Calais, Oran, and other "hot spots".
The Calgary airman enlisted in the Royal Air Force in 1936 and two years later was transferred to the Royal Navy, holding the highest commission open to fliers in the Fleet Air Arm.
